TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - To compensate for all inconveniences caused by the protest that the public must endure today, Blue Bird Group decides to give its passengers free rides for 24 hours starting.
People in Jakarta and surrounding areas will be able to ride on Blue Bird's regular cabs for free all day onWednesday, March 23.
"Tomorrow, our regular taxis will be free of charge for 24 hours in Jakarta and surrounding areas," Blue Bird Group's commissioner Noni Purnomo said here on Tuesday, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
Noni said that the free service is the company's way of showing its commitment to make up for today's disrupted public transportation service.
Noni also said that Blue Bird Group does not legalize its drivers to hold protests in Jakarta today, saying that the company has urged its fleet to continue operating as normal.
"The ones who take part in the protests are not Blue Bird's workers union, but the Paguyuban Pengemudi Angkutan Darat/Association of Land Transport Drivers (PPAD)," Noni said.
Blue Bird, she added, regrets the fact that some of its drivers took part in the protest, which is tarnished by violent behaviors. The company, she said, disapproves of any form of anarchy that happened during the strike.
She said Blue Bird will impose harsh penalties on drivers who are proven to have acted violently during the protest.
