TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Banyuwangi District Government’s innovations in tourism development has been appreciated by the House's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) DPR since it has environmental vision and promote community empowerment.
BKSAP DPR Head Nurhayati Ali Assegaf who presided the delegates in Banyuwangi has lauded all efforts from Banyuwangi Regent Abdul Azwar Anas in achieving sustainable development particularly in tourism sector. “I’m amazed that Banyuwangi has left Malang Municipality behind in a number of achievements,” she said as cited from DPR’s written statement, Friday.
In a recent meeting at Banyuwangi District Government Pavilion, Nurhayati was very appreciative to Sedekah Oksigen (one man one tree) program established by the Regent. The one man one tree program has been working perfectly at every agency and residential area. One tree could contribute oxygent for two people.
In her speech, Nurhayati explained that BKSAP has established Working Unit (Panja) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to assess the achievements of regional governments. “Through Panja, we want to assess environmental economics. And sedekah oksigen is an outstanding innovation,” said the member of Democratic Party Fraction.
Banyuwangi Regent has noted that in addition to sedekah oksigen program, he has also extablished clean toilet program and free courses to learn three foreign languages, which include English, Mandarin and Arabic, in villages. The foreign language courses have been carried out to anticipate the MEA.
In Banyuwangi, Azwar Anas went on, the poverty figure continues to decrease, from 20 percent to only 9.2 percent. Whereas its per capita income rose form Rp14.7 million per annum to Rp33.4 million per annum.
