TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) will coordinate with Jakarta Government and the Social Ministry in order to ensure protection and public service in relation to the relocation plan of Kalijodo residents.
ORI member Ninik Rahayu said that her agency will ensure that no public service omission will happen against the Kalijodo to-be relocated residents, especially for the provision of rehabilitation program for commercial sex workers at the area.
She noted that there have been some indications of human trafficking in the area, citing confessions by a number of residents. “After Kalijodo residents relocation, we should prevent them from being human trafficking victims again, which could even be worse than before,” she said as cited by Kabar24.com, Monday, February 29, 2016.
The ORI will give suggestions to the relevant agencies such as North Jakarta municipal government and the Social Ministry. Ninik expressed that the government must anticipate the risk suffered by residents in every policy-making. Having previously sent the third warning letter, Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out the closedown of buildings in Kalijodo today.
