TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned gas company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), showed its commitment on developing more natural gas infrastructure by constructing 1,685 kilometers-long pipeline to distribute natural gas.
"PGN had planned to develop gas infrastructure to increase domestic gas [consumption],” PGN CEO Hendi Prio Santoso said in a statement on Monday, February 22, 2016. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2019, will extend PGN’s pipeline length from the current 6,971 kilometers to 8,656 kilometers.
Hendi said that the new pipeline is expected to improve PGN’s ability in utilizing natural gas. The company recorded that with the new pipeline, it could utilize at least 1,902 million cubic feet (MMscfd) of natural gas per day, and is expected to save Rp 110.9 trillion of the company’s money.
Hendi said that the new 1,685 kilometers pipeline will include the Duri-Dumai-Medan open access transmission pipe, Muara-Bekasi-Semarang open access transmission pipeline, the Batam (Nagoya) WNTS-Pemping distribution pipeline, as well as natural gas distribution pipeline in existing areas and new expansion areas.
In addition to construction new pipelines, Hendi said that PGN will build 60 additional natural gas refueling stations. in several regions, including Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Banten, Batam, Lampung, Riau, and North Sumatra.
