TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that social gap in Indonesia is now at an alarming level.
He also said that social gap in urban areas is bigger than social gap in villages.
"In general, social gap in our country is now alarming. It means we have to immediately overcome this issue,” Kalla said on Saturday (13/2).
According to Kalla, Indonesia’s Gini ration in urban areas have also risen this year although Gini ration in rural areas has dropped.
"One of the causes is different facilities enjoyed by the rich and the poor. In rural areas, the difference is not too striking but in big cities like Jakarta, the gap is quite striking,” he added.
Under such a condition, Kalla said that the government must immediately address the issue of social gap and if it’s not immedialy handled, social gap will bring serious social problems for Indonesia.
