TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno said that several SOEs are assessing the possibilities to develop tourism area in West Sumatera.
Rini said that one of the SOE, PT Ketera Api Indonesia, has assets in that region, such as the currently inactive Padang Panjang-Bukit Tinggi railway. "We'll see if it can be re-activated. We will develop the surrounding area and connect [the railway] to Sawah Lunto. We have areas developed by Bukit Asam that can be developed into a resort," said Rini on Friday, February 12, 2016.
According to Rini, developing West Sumatera can be set as an example to develop the Indonesia's tourism sector. Rini added that currently, several SOEs have been taking part in managing tourism regions in Java and Bali.
One of the SOE, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan dan Ratu Boko, manages several temples in Central Java and Yogyakarta. Another SOE, PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia manages tourism areas in Nusa Dua in Bali and Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara.
