TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In order to prevent more layoffs, the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) proposed to accelerate labor absorption by relocating workers to other companies.
Apindo deputy chairman Adityawarman said that the government must help laid off workers to find new jobs by establishing communication between the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry and the workers.
“The government must take global and optimal actions in order to achieve [strategic and spot-on] solution by informing workers on which areas are looking for more workers," Aditya said on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Aditya, admitted that efficiency measures must be taken. However, he asserted that layoffs should not make companies have to lose their best workers. "Making workers more effective is better because effective workers are more productive," Aditya said.
Previously, Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri said that in 2016, there are 184,000 job vacancies in 40 companies that have not been filled because majority of laborers in Indonesia are elementary school and junior high school graduates.
"More than 60 percent of our laborers are elementary school and junior high school graduates," Hanif said on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Hanif also suggested job seekers to improve their skills through Vocational Training Centers (BLK) managed by central and regional governments to improve their chances of getting new jobs.
