Pertamina, PLN Sign Agreement on Geothermal Development

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and the State Electricity Company (PLN) has signed an electricity and geothermal trade agreement in an effort to promote geothermal power plant investment.
The new agreement and amendment to a previous agreement covers two geothermal power plants (PLTP) operated by Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a subsidiary of Pertamina, namely the PLTP Lahedong and PLTP Kamojang.
Abadi Poernomo, Chairman of the Geothermal Association said that the agreement can be considered as an important momentum to drive geothermal investments forward. Specifically, in the attempt to achieve the 35,000 megawatt (MW) electricity program, where 25 percent of the total electricity will be generated using renewable energy.
"The signing of the geothermal and electricity trade agreement between Pertamina and PLN shows the international community about the government's determination, especially PLN as the off taker in geothermal development," Abadi said in a press conference on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Irfan Zainuddin, PGE's President Director expressed his optimism that the utilization of geothermal energy in Indonesia will develop rapidly. Irfan said that PGE will also be committed in supporting the government's program to develop environmentally friendly and clean energy that will help in reducing carbon emission.
Meanwhile, Surya Darma, Chairman of the Indonesian Renewably Energy Community said that the agreement will provide positive sentiments for future development of geothermal in Indonesia.
