TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian, Jakarta Metro Police Chief, said that Jessica Kumala Wongso, 27-year-old, suspect in the murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin, 27-year-old, could be detained during investigation period for up to 120 days. Jessica is currently detained in Jakarta Metro Police prison for 12 days.
“It is not a problem; maximum period could be applied for this case,” said Tito at Jakarta Metro Police, Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
Tito reasoned that they are still waiting for the completion of investigation dossier (P21). His agency is still complementing the existing evidence by coordinating with the Public Prosecutor, adding that he would complete the insufficient data.
“We would call expert witness. We would re-do the investigation dossier (BAP). We would add new questions if needed. That’s what we are doing now,” he said.
During the investigation period Jessica could be detained for 120 days – 20 days of detainment by investigators, 40 days of detainment by prosecutors and 30 days of detainment by the court. The Police has also requested for 30-day extension of detainment to the judges.
Tito also added that he has contacted Australian police to find out the state of relationships between Mirna, Jessica and their friends during their study in Australia. Investigations has also been carried out to figure out Jessica’s character and attitude in Australia to find the motive behind the murder. “We will not reveal it [to the public] here,” said Tito.
Jessica Kumala Wongso has been detained by Jakarta Metro Police since Saturday, January 30, 2016. On Friday evening, he was named as suspect in Wayan Mirna Salihin murder.
Mirna died after consuming Vietnamese Iced Coffee at Olivier Cafe, Grand Indonesia on Wednesday, January 6. She died due to cyanide poison contained in her drinks. Mirna, Jessica, and one other friend, Hani, were hanging out having not met each other for a long time. They were college friends at Billy Blue College, Australia.
