TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives Commission III overseeing legal affairs has received a dismissal letter from the Attorney General's Office in relation to the legal process of two former Corruption Eradication Commision (KPK) commissioners Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto. However, the House has not provided any responses to the letter.
House's Commission III chairman Bambang Soesatyo said that the letter would be discussed within two days.
"Commission III leaders will hold a plenary meeting," Bambang said at the House of Representatives building on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Bambang revealed that the letter was addressed to House leaders. However, Bambang claimed that the House leaders had delegated the power to handle to matter to the Commission III.
Bambang explained that the AGO's move to ask House's opinions related to the cases was correct. According to Bambang, the deponeering regulation stated that the AGO must seek opinion from other institutions before making decisions.
Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo neither denied nor confirmed that he had taken the deponeering option for Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto.
"[Case dismissal] and other affairs are classified. Please respect the process and stop bringing state institutions into conflicts," Prasetyo told Tempo on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Earlier on Tuesday, last week, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo invited Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo and National Police chief Badrodin Haiti to discuss cases entangling Bambang Widjojanto, Abraham Samad and Novel Baswedan. Jokowi asked the three cases to be settled once and for all.
