TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manpower and Transmigration Ministry welcomed the upcoming international free trade era, which will allow free-flow of foreign workers into Indonesia, with high optimism. The Ministry believed that Indonesia will receive many benefits from free-trade scheme.
"We have to be optimist with the upcoming of the free-trade era," said Manpower and Transmigration Minister Hanif Dhakiri on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Hanif said that 1.2 million Indonesian laborers in the formal and informal sector have flooded the international labor market. Most of the laborers are female workers found working in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Middle East countries.
Hanif added that the government will issue a technical regulation to regulate foreign workers wishing to enter the Indonesian labor market. The new regulation, Hanif explained, will be focused on improving the welfare of domestic workers. "We will make a regulation [on foreign workers], no doubt about that," Hanif said.
