TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said that the government will require children to have ID cards (KTP). The ID cards will be issued in the form of Children ID Card (KIA). Tjahjo said that the regulation will came into force staring this year. "KIA is an official identity for children below seventeen years-old and unmarried," said Tjahjo in a written statement received by Tempo on Wednesday, February 11, 2016.
Tjahjo said that KIAs is regulated under Interior Minister Regulation No. 2/2016 on Children ID Card. The regulation states that the ID card will be issued by the District/Municipal Demography and Civil Record Department. In accordance with Article 2 of the regulation, the KIA is intended to improve data collection, protection and fulfillment of Indonesian citizen constitutional rights.
Tjahjo explained that there will be two types of KIA: an ID card for newborn babies up to 5 years old children, and ID card for children aged 5 to 17 years old. For newborn children, KIA will be issued simultaneously with the birth certificate, Tjahjo added.
Requirements for the first category KIA (for newborn up to 5 years old children) include submitting a copy of birth certificate, showing the original birth certificate, providing a copy of the child’s parents’ Family Card (KK) or guardian, and showing the parents' or guardian original ID Card.
Meanwhile, for the second category KIA (for children from 5 to 17 years old), parents must submit a copy of the child's birth certificate, show the original birth certificate, provide the original copy of the parents' or guardian's KK and original ID Card. Additional requirement includes submitting, two passport photographs of the child.
