TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) urged labor union to stop spreading rumors about work termination (PHK). “Their statement must be corrected,” said BKPM chief Franky Sibarani on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
Franky said labor union should be able to convey accurate information about employment, especially the one that concerns PHK, because it is very sensitive towards economic stability. “That information must be reliable because the impact may be bad,” he said.
He pointed out one of the wrong information that had caused unrest is PHK of thousands of workers in Panasonic and Toshiba’s factories. “It was said that Panasonic and Toshiba have laid-off more than 2,000 workers, while the fact is that there were only 425 people,” said Franky.
In automotive sector, there were also PHK rumors in Honda and Yamaha. “The reality is no one was laid off there.”
However, the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) released sales figures of motorcycles in Indonesia stood at 6.48 million units in 2015. The figures dropped 18 percent from last year’s 7.9 million units.
Previously, the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) President Said Iqbal said the plans to close down PT Panasonic Lighting in Cikarang, West Java, and Pasuruan, East Java, as well as PT Toshiba Indonesia in Cikarang will cause layoffs towards thousands of workers. “Around 2,500 workers will be laid off,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday, February 2.
Iqbal explained that the thousands of workers consisted of 1,700 KSPI members in PT Panasonic and 970 KSPI members in PT Toshiba.
