TEMPO.CO, Surabaya-Heavy rainfall in East Java has yet to affect flights at Bandara Juanda. According to Taufik Darmawan of BMKG Juanda, no warning has been issued for flight industry due to high intensity of rain.
“Despite its high intensity, rainfall has not affected East Java flights,” said Taufik, Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
Currently, rainy season in East Java is at its peak which was started at the end of January 2016. “We predict that it would be decreasing at the end of February,” Taufik said.
Surabaya is potentially raining today with a temperature of 18-29 degrees Celsius and wind speed of 35 kilometers per hour. Whereas Sidoarjo District is potentially raining heavily with a temperature of 24-32 degrees Celcius and wind speed of 35 kilometers per hour. “Aircraft will not yet be given warning under that condition,” he said.
Other regions in East Java such as Malang, Mojokerto, Jombang, Magetan, Bojonegoro, and Gresik Districts will experience raining with intensity of up to 50 millimeters per day. “It could cause flood,” said Taufik.
Liza Anindya, Community Relations of PT Angkasa Pura I of Juanda International Airport, also said that flights have yet to experience disruption due to heavy rainfall. All flights have been running normally. “But I still need more data; so far so good,” he said.
However, yesterday’s flights were disrupted due to the peeled-off Juanda runway. “But it was only temporary,” said Liza.
Flight delays are currently associated with many factors. Apart from the readiness of destination airport, the lateness of aircraft arrivals could also cause the delay. “Delays happen; it could be caused by many factors. It’s not a problem,” she said.
Previously, several districts in East Java including Sidoarjo District, Bojonegoro District, Mojokerto District, even Surabaya had been hit by flood due to heavy rainfall.
