TEMPO.CO, Lhokseumawe - Flood in North Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, has caused at least 2,910 families and 7,597 people to evacuate in 24 villages in five districts.
“They evacuated to meunasah [small mosques] and higher areas in villages,” said Munawar, secretary of North Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
According to Munawar, BPBD and other components have conducted rescue by evacuating victims, distributing aids and building public kitchens.
The flood that was caused by heavy rainfall for a week has raised the river water debit. Kreung Peuto, Kreung Pirak and Kreung Arakundo rivers overflew and have flooded several districts include Langkahan, Tanah Luas, Lhoksukon, Matang Kuli and Pirak Timu.
“Even though the water in several places has receded, we are still on standby in vulnerable locations,” said Munawar.
Flood in several districts in North Aceh Regency occurs every year. The most vulnerable districts are Pirak Timu, Matang Kuli, Lhoksukon and Langkahan.
