TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Pasaman Regency, West Sumatera, said that the 15 meters long and three meters high landslide that has occurred in the area had severely damaged the main access road that connects West and North Sumatera Province.

"[The damaged road] is the main line that connects West Sumatera and North Sumatera," said Elvi Wardi, Chief of Emergency and Logistics of the BPBD Pasaman on Monday, February 8, 2016.

Elvi said that authorities are still attempting to clear the road using heavy machineries. "The heavy rain in the area was the main cause of the landslide and flash flood, specifically the ones that occurred in Rao and Panti District," Elvi said.

Elvi added that the BPBD has declared a disaster emergency status for the Pasaman regency. Elvi stated that local residents should remain cautious to anticipate more disasters.
