Gunung Kidul Beaches Flooded with Tourists on Lunar New Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 55,000 tourists visited the south beach in Gunung Kidul District, Yogyakarta, during the Chinese New Year holiday on February 6 to February 8 2016.
Hary Sukmono, Chief of Tourism Product Development at the Gunung Kidul Cultural and Tourism Agency said on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, that beaches remain as the most favorite tourist attraction in the region. "It could be seen by the increasing number of vehicles heading towards Gunung Kidul.
The number of visits reached its peak on February 7, 2016, with an estimated 25,000 people simultaneously visited the beach, making nearly Rp 500 million in earnings.
Hary said that looking at the number of tourist visits, he is confident that the Rp 22 billion tourism revenue target can be achieved in 2016, with the support of other tourism sites.
