The award ceremony was conducted on February 9, 2016 - to coincide with the peak of celebrations to commemorate the day, which was held in Central Lombok's Kuta Beach, in West Nusa Tenggara. The Head of PWI's Central branch, Margiono, said in his opening speech that 2016's celebration is one of the most festive celebration organised by the organisation. "In addition to the presentation of the Adinegoro Awards, for the first time ever, we organised a competition for travel writing," he said, before adding that he hopes that more participants - especially journalists from rural areas - will join in the upcoming years. "We don't want the awards to be dominated by writers employed by established mass media based in the capital," Margiono said.
A member of the judging committee, Amalia E. Maulana, explained that Subkhan's writing was chosen as the winner of the competition for his ability to showcase modern approaches and style of writing in his work. "The writing is unlike what we've seen from other contestants, so we firmly believe that his work - titled 'Jagoan Lokal Tak Kalah Pede' - is worthy of the Adinegoro Award," Amalia said. Subkhan's work was published in Koran Tempo on July 26, 2015.
"Subkhan's writing successfully encapsulates and portrays existing trends among our youths - such as comical satire and the generation's obsession with social media," Amalia said, before adding that his crisp delivery was a breath of fresh air to its' readers - resulting in a higher reader retention than other works judged by the panels.
