TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Alexander Marwata, Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Alexander Marwata said that the plan to place one of the Comission’s investigators, Novel Baswedan, in a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), was made in an effort to reform the company. "[The KPK Chairman] expected that the placement of KPK employee to SOEs and ministries could bring [improvement] in corruption eradication," Alexander said when contacted by Tempo on Monday, February 8, 2016.

Alexander said that KPK employees placed outside of KPK could become agents of change. The goal is to fight corruption where it happens, among others at SOEs and ministries.

However, he admitted that they have yet to hold talks with SOEs and ministries. "We have yet to talk about it. It’s still a suggestion," Alexander said.

Muji Kartika Rahayu, Novel Baswedan’s lawyer, said that Novel's transfer to one of the country's SOE had been offered by five KPK leaders since last week. "Novel is free to choose which SOE," Muji said when contacted by Tempo on Monday, February 8, 2016.

However, according to Muji, Novel had rejected the offer because the transfer's purpose was considered to be unclear. "In addition, there has not been any transfer of KPK employees to other agencies without clear duties and responsibilities," said Muji.
