TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucians celebrating Chinese New Year prayer at Tri Darma Tjong Hok Kiong temple in Sidoarjo, East Java, said they could not take prayer solemnly since the temple was flooded.
"It disturbs our prayers; we can usually prosprate our head in front of the gods altar but now we can only stand and it discomforts the ritual," said Andre Wihardi (28) from Bandung on Monday, February 8, 2016.
However, people are still performing the prayer ritual properly though the temple of the three religions is flooded.
Based on Tempo’s report, the water level of flood in the temple is about 30-50 centimeters. Almost all the temple court and prayer’s rooms are drowned.
Heavy rain on midnight until Sunday morning has also drowned thousands of residences in Sidoarjo.
Water has also flooded several city roads, namely Jalan Kartini, Hang Tuah, Yos Sudarso, KH Mukmin, and Jaksa Agung Suprapto which congested the traffic. Until now, the flood has yet to drain.
