Police Deploy Hundreds Securing Monasteries in Tangerang

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tangerang Police will deploy 298 personnel to secure the celebration of the Chinese New Year in 21 monasteries in the city on Monday, February 8, 2016.
Tangerang Police spokesperson Comr. Triyani said that the personnel would secure dozens of monasteries in the city, including the largest one the Boen Tek Bio Monastery.
“Police are ready to secure the Chinese New Year and the homecoming. Of the total personnel [deployed], 150 personnel will be assigned to direct traffic, while 268 others will stand guard at monasteries,” Tri said on Sunday, February 7, 2016.
According to Triyani, the Tangerang Police has established outposts in rest areas of the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road to monitor the homecoming flow. The Tangerang Police, Triyani added, had briefed the personnel on Friday, February 5, 2016.
In the meantime, the Padumuttara (Boen Tek Bio) Monastery in Tangerang was gearing up to welcome the Chinese New Year, by providing 30,000 candles, incenses and papers for visitors to conduct prayers.
Monastery spokesperson Oeng Cing Eng said that the number of prayer equipment prepared by the monastery had increased compared to last years.
“The candles are for prayer purpose of the next 15 days. The number of visitors is expected to reach 30,000 people,” Cing Eng said.
Cing Eng explained that the celebration of the Chinese New Year was not only a tradition but also a ritual for Konghucu followers to conduct prayers and self-introspections.
