No Indonesian Nationals Killed in Taiwan Quake, says Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 in Richer scale on Saturday (6/2) rocked Taiwan.
So far, no Indonesian nationals are reportedly killed in the quake.
“So far, there are no Indonesian victims killed in the quake,” said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi in a text message on Sunday (7/2).
Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry continued to coordinate with a team from the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) di Taiwan.
"The KDEI team continued to find information about Indonesian nationals who might be affected and to coordinate with the local authorities,” Retno said.
Retno also said that the search for Indonesian nationals were done in three hospitals in Kota Tainan, namely Chimei Tainan Hospital, National Cheng Kung University Hospital and Sinlau Christian Hospital.
The impacts of the quake were felt in almost all areas in Taiwan, with the strong intensity felt in Yunlin County, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Tainan City (central), Chiayi County, and Chiayi City.
KDEI has also opened a post, Posko KDEI Peduli at Si Hua Street No 42-2, North District, Tainan City.

"We hope that all Indonesian nationals in Taiwan and relatives in Indonesia who want to know the condition of their family in Taiwan can call the post and the hotline,” said KDEI Head Arief Fadillah.
Until December 2015, it is recorded that around 17,000 Indonesian nationals reside in Taiwan, with 16,881 of them working and the rest being students.
