TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Crescent Star Party (PBB) chairman Yusril Ihza Mahendra has confirmed that he will run in the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election as an independent candidate and a party candidate.
“Running as an independent candidate and party candidate is possible in the system that we use,” Yusril said in his encyclopedia launching in Jakarta on Saturday, February 6, 2016.
Yusril said that he had no problem with the Crescent Star Party being called as a minor party. Yusril claimed that he would get one million signatures from Jakarta residents. In addition, Yusril viewed that no party in Jakarta had dominant power.
Yusril refused to reveal the number of parties declaring supports for his candidacy. Over the last few days, Yusril said, a number of party leaders had expressed their views.
“We think that it has already begun over the last week,” he said, adding that he had yet decided which party to be selected.
To this date, Yusril said that he would continue to monitor supports from people in Jakarta. Yusril admitted that he would look at public’s view toward his candidacy and would later decide which party to be running with, while considering running as an independent candidate.
