TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura I has approved the opening of new route which is from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to Dili, the capital city of Timor Leste.
“We have discussed this with Sriwijaya Air that will open the route to fly there and they approved,” Angkasa Pura I El Tari Kupang Airport technical operations manager Indrata told Antara on Friday.
In the discussion, Sriwijaya Air also plans to open Yougyakarta-Denpasar-Kupang Dili round-trip route.
Indrata said the idea to open the new route is based on the fact that many NTT citizens often travel to Timor Leste. “All we have to do now is to wait for confirmation from Dili to open the route,” said Indrata.
Flights from Dili to Indonesia are only limited to 14 flights. With the new route, the flights will rise to 21 flights.
NTT Tourism and Creative Economy Agency acting chief Welly Rahe Rohimone said the new route will increase the number of tourists from Timor Leste and Australia.
“I hope our tourism can attract more local and foreign tourists,” he said.
