TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama requested the World Bank to accelerate the execution of Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiative (JEDI) project so that flood can be mitigated.
“We have asked the World Bank to accelerate JEDI project as there are 1,058 conduits in Jakarta,” said Ahok on Thursday.
According to Ahok, JEDI project is one of the efforts to mitigate flood in the capital city. The JEDI concept is dividing water flowing in Jakarta equally so that it does not concentrate in only one sport.
“With that concept, flood can be controlled and recede faster. That’s why we want that project implemented faster,” said Ahok.
He said in Jakarta, there are 13 large rivers. From those 13 rivers, the World Bank is responsible for dredging five rivers, while the rest are handled by the Jakarta government and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.
“Through the Water Management Agency, we will keep dredging all waterways so that water can flow smoothly,” said Ahok.
