TEMPO.CO, United States - Whatsapp announced that it has reached a new milestone - as the user of the popular instant messaging app reached one billion individuals as per February 1, 2016.
This is Whatsapp's first milestone in 2016, and the company said that given the numbers, it means one in seven smartphone user has downloaded and used Whatsapp every month. "We've been around for seven years and thankfully, we have managed to establish a loyal user base," said Whatsapp through a statement released - not extraordinarily, via Whatsapp - on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
In September 2015, Whatsapp reported that the number of the app's user has reached around 900 million users. As an instant messaging app, Whatsapp has expanded its' service to compete with its' competitors - with enough product differentiation to separate it from its' competitors such as Facebook Messenger, Viber, and other instant messaging applications.
Previously in 2014, Facebook bought the company for US$19 billion - equivalent to Rp209 trillion. Facebook stated that the prospect of the app's development and its' constant growth has led it to decide to invest to develop Whatsapp further.
