Gov't Includes High-Speed Train as National Strategic Project

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi' Widodo on Thursday, January 29, 2016, said that the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project is part of a master plan to connect big cities in Java and outside of Java.
According to an article posted on the Cabinet Secretary's website, setkab.go.id, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project has been included as one of the national strategic project. Similar statement was also stipulated in the Presidential Decree No. 3/2016 on National Strategic Project Acceleration, which was signed by President Jokowi on January 8, 2016.
Through the Presidential Decree, President Jokowi has instructed Working Cabinet ministers, Attorney General, Police chief, Cabinet Secretary, Presidential Chief of Staff, chiefs of government agencies, governors and regents/mayors to take necessary steps to accelerate the development of the national strategic projects.
Jokowi underlined that train is the future of mass transportation, which why, according to the President, densely populated cities must already utilize this mode of transportation.
During the groundbreaking of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train construction, Jokowi said that the project is a result of cooperation between Indonesian and Chinese state enterprises to face global competition.
"With mastery of technology and manufacturing industry, we can compete with other countries," said Jokowi.
Jokowi also hoped that the high-speed train project can provide both short-term and long-term benefits.
