TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Riau Police arrested Iskandar Zulkarnain, an allegedly member of international drug ring, in Pekanbaru with 7,850 ecstasy pills worth Rp2.3 billion (US$166,600).
Police had to shot the suspect in his left leg for resisting arrest.
“The drugs were supplied from Malaysia,” Riau Police director of narcotics division Sr. Comr. Hermansyah on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
The suspect had been in drugs business and on police wanted list for a while. It took two weeks for the police to tail on the suspect before he was caught with thousands of ecstasy pills as the evidence.
Iskandar was supplied with ecstasy from his partner, TN, in Malaysia. However, Police could not find TN since Iskandar had not met TN in person. Both of them communicated via telephone calls in running their business.
“They have a broken network. This MO is often practiced by international drug networks to cover their tracks. However, we will investigate the case to completely expose it,” Hermansyah said.
Earlier, Iskandar had been arrested multiple times for similar cases in Riau and Lampung. In 2014, the suspect escaped from police custody during medical check at Bhayangkara hospital in Pekanbaru.
