TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police Traffic Unit recorded that running on railway crossing barriers had dominated traffic violations in the city over the last two months.
About 55 percent or 1,525 of a total of 2,776 violations were those of railway crossing barriers.
“The figure is quite high compared to other violations. We have issued about 1,090 tickets [for the violations], and the rest of them was warnings,” Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, head of law enforcement of the Jakarta Police Traffic Unit, said on Sunday, January 24, 2016.
Budiyanto said that the high number of such traffic violations was alarming since it could lead to traffic accidents.
“The example was the railroad crossing collision between an electric commuter train and a metromini bus. It began from a traffic violation,” he added.
The Jakarta Police also issued 711 tickets for public transportations that did not close their doors and 540 tickets for those related to license and registrations.
“We will continue to enforce the law against traffic violations,” he asserted.
