TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Indonesia Environmental Area (Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia / Walhi) of West Java has refused Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project. The government is asked to revoke Presidential Decree No 107 Year 2015 as it will speed up the damages of the environment.
West Java Walhi Director Dadan Ramdan said in press conference that the cooperation project between the Indonesian and Chinese government measuring 140km length will have major impact, such as the elimination of rice fields, gardens, and residences.
West Java Walhi is also concerned about other impacts, including land conversion for elite residences, luxury apartments, and the growth of new industrial estates. Analysis on the environmental impact of the project also became a highlight as it is considered to have many flaws.
It was previously reported that PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China CEO Hanggoro Budi Wiryawan said the company is hampered by several land acquisitions totaling 650 hectares, including residential and industrial areas in Karawang and Purwakarta, as well as assets of PT Perhutani in both districts.
