High-Speed Train Utilizes Foreign Manpower, Company Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hanggoro Budi Wiryawan, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) CEO confirmed that the development of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train will be carried out using laborers from West Java. Nevertheless, Hanggoro said that foreign employees from China will still be involved.
"Chinese workers will only be employed for the expert level. Lower level position will be filled by local workers," Hanggoro said on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
Hanggoro said that the high-speed train infrastructure development project, which covers a total of 140.9 kilometer distance, will absorb 39,000 workforces for its physical construction phase, 20,000 workforces for the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) phase, and 28,000 workforces for the operational phase of the TOD.
During the early stages, KCIC will be procuring 11 train sets, with each set comprising of 8 carriages. The train will operate for 18 hours a day. "Each train could accommodate 583 people in one trip," Hanggoro said.
The high-speed train is scheduled to operate in 2019 with an estimated investment value of US$5.573 trillion, will consist of four stations located in Jakarta and West Java. "Its stations will include Halim [Jakarta], Karawang, Walini [West Bandung District] and Tegalluar [Bandung District]," Hanggoro said.
