TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Film Producer Association (Aprofi) expressed its support for foreign investors planning to invest in Indonesia's cinema business. Aprofi asserted that foreign investors must be allowed to invest in the cinema business in order to improve the national movie industry.

Aprofi Secretary General Fauzan Zidni, as quoted in this week’s edition of Tempo Magazine, stated that with involvement of foreign investors, Indonesian movie makers will have better chances to work on major projects.

Fauzan added that such condition will allow a transfer of knowledge process that will improve the skills of Indonesian movie makers. Fauzan said that the government’s intention to remove cinema business from its negative investment list (DNI) should include the production, distribution, and screening process in the industry.

On Tuesday last week, January 12, 2016, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had conducted a meeting to discuss the removal of several business sectors from the DNI, including the movie industry. However, the President said that a final meeting will be held in two weeks after January 12, 2016.

In response to the plan, Chand Parwez Servia, founder of Aprofi said that opening new movie theatres should be done with much consideration. “Don’t let newcomers in to big cities that already have cinema chain,” Chand said.
