TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The newly appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Ade Komarudin said that DPR is committed to improving its legislative work in 2016 to win back public trust.
He has also set a target that the DPR can produce at least 30 laws in 2016.
"Last year, we only make three laws. Now it’s time to make up for that," Ade said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“We must evaluate our work performance. We must introspect. We must be more productive in the future,” he added.
In 2015, the DPR could only produce three laws and 14 open cumulative laws.
The three laws were the 2014 Legislative Institutions (MD3) Law, Law No.1/2015 on regional elections and Law No.2/2015 on regional administrations.
Furthermore, to improve its work, he said, the House will coordinate closely with the government by holding routine coordination meetings with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“Poor communication with the government hampered our legislative work. This is because law deliberation is not merely the work of House members but also involves the government,” he said.
