TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police Headquarters said that the explosions in Sarinah Plaza, Jakarta Pusat killed six people. Three of them are the perpetrators and the other three are police officers.
"We lost at least three of our members," said Polri spokesman Inspector General Anton Charliyan on Thursday, January 14, as reported by Bisnis Indonesia.
As reported earlier, two foreign nationals whose identities remain unknown performed suicide bombing at the traffic police post located opposite the Sarinah Plaza t 10.00 this morning.
The two men approached the police post on a motorcycle and stopped to ask for direction. Moments later, a sound of explosion was heard from the post.
A Go-Jek driver, Syaiful, who witnessed the incident, said he also heard sounds of a gunfight from inside one of the cafes in the Sarinah Mall.
"The bombers were wielding regular fire arms as far as I could tell. Three of them were wearing large backpacks," Syaiful said.
