TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Legok Jawa horse racing track in Cimerak, Pangandaran Regency is preparing to become a new tourist destination. "Horse racing is a tradition in the region that we will attempt to resurrect," said Daud Ahmad, Acting Regent of Pangandaran on Monday, January 11, 2016.
Daud said that horse racing is often held in Pangandaran and with proper horse racing track, the activity could provide good tourist attraction. In addition, the track that will host the XIX/2016 National Sports Weekend (PON XIX/2016) is located close to the beach, providing a captivating atmosphere.
"The location [of the horse racing track] is close to other tourist attraction in Pangandaran, and the Madasari beach in Cimerak district. Hopefully, it will help to improve local economy," Daud said.
The horse racing is also expected to help increase the regional income of Pangandaran regency which had only been established in 2012.
Daud hoped that the Legok Jawa horse racing track could attract support from respective stakeholders, such as the Indonesian Horse Riding Sport Association, by organizing horse racing competition.
"The construction of the costly horse racing venue will not be used only for PON XIX/2016, but also for regional, national, or international event," Daud said.
