TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said that Netflix’s expansion to Indonesia will affect many industries in the country. "Not only the Communication and Informatics Ministry. There are internet [provider] businesses, and data center. There are many implications," Rudiantara said on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
Therefore, Rudiantara said, the government plans to regulate how Netflix would not ‘kill’ other existing industries. But first, as Rudiantara explained, the government will evaluate the economical and social benefits of the expansion for the public.
In terms of Netflix's services content, Rudiantara said that the issue must be discussed with respective institutions, namely the Education and Culture Ministry. "If it's about content, then we have to talk with [Education and Culture Minister Anies Baswedan]. However, if it's related to the broadcasting, we will have to talk with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission," Rudiantara said.
