TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman says he will resume to import cow as a reserve. “Cow import will be resumed in 2016,” Amran said in Jakarta on Monday, January 4.
However, Amran refused to give further comment on the issue.
The Agriculture Ministry said it will increase the number of cattle breeder as it will be included in the primary commodity where the budget refocusing allocated.
Budget refocusing is done for activities that are considered less effective. From the saving, Rp4.3 trillion was obtained for the allocation of primary commodity including cow breeder.
Some of the refocusing budget is used to add 15,000 cattle, which equals to Rp450 billion. So, the total number of cattle breeder in 2016 will be 50,000 which worth to Rp1.5 trillion.
The Agriculture Ministry previously disclosed that it will import 600,000 cows in 2016 to meet the domestic demand. It will be done at each quarter since local cows have not been able to meet the market demand.
