TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian and Russian governments will enhance military cooperation. Russian Ambassador for Indonesia Mikhail Galuzin said the arrival of Russian warship called "Destroyer Bystry" in Indonesia is to increase military cooperation between both countries. “This visit is to boost trust between Indonesia and Russia,” said Galuzin on Monday.
There will be joint military drill with the Indonesian navy today, December 29. Galuzin said the training is focused on communications and war strategies.
The destroyer ship also aims to establish communications with Indonesia ahead of joint training with several countries at Exercise Komodo next year. “We hope the Russian navy can participate in Komodo training next year,” he said.
The Bystry vessel has docked at Tanjung Priok Port since Christmas and will stay until tomorrow.
According to Adm. Alexander Yuldashev, Deputy Commander of Flotilla of Pacific Fleet Real, the ship is Sovremennyy-class destroyer. He said Bystry is a formidable ship and has missiles that can destroy a submarine. “This ship is able to face global threats, such as terrorist,” said Yuldashev.
