TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Year-end holiday season has started to bring more and more visitors to touristic destinations including climbing track of Mt. Semeru in East Java. Hundreds of people had flocked the mountain to spend the long weekends.
“There is an increase in the number of climbers in Semeru, which is around 200 to 300 people per day compared to 100 to 200 people per day on regular weekends,” Head of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Ayu Dewi Utari told Antaranews.
To prevent accidents, the park management has restricted climbing only up to Kalimati outpost. People are not allowed to climb to Mahameru peak because it is considered dangerous.
“We reiterate that climbers must comply with the recommended climbing limit for their safety,” Ayu added.
Number of climbers remains limited to 500 people per day and there is no additional quota applied for holiday season. Climbers are also warned to bring down their trashes, not to start bonfire, and to bring adequate logistic.
