TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo responded positively towards the decision made by members of the House of Representatives Ethics Council to impose sanction against House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto for his involvement in negotiation on Freeport Indonesia contract extension.
"[The decision] is good, it will support the investigation in the Attorney General Office later on," Prasetyo said to Tempo on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
Currently, Deputy Attorney General on Special Crime of the AGO is investigating the suspected conspiracy between Setya Novanto and oil tycoon M. Riza Chalid in an attempt to gain benefit from Freeport contract extension.
Prasetyo said that the MKD trial result will be used as a reference in deciding whether Setya's case will be escalated to the next step or not. Prasetyo confirmed that the AGO will continue its investigation on Setya even if the MKD decided not to impose sanction against the House Speaker.
"MKD deals with issues whether Setya's actions were proper or not. We view the case from the legal aspects. So, sanction or not, we will continue [our investigation]," Prasetyo said.
