TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication Manager PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Rika Lestari bans visitors to swim along Ancol beach after thousands of fishes died and floated on the beach on Monday, November 30.
“We have instructed beach officials to advised visitors to not swim,” Rika told Tempo on Tuesday.
Rika said the ban is set in order to maintain health and comfort of the visitors since the water unleashes fishy odor from the dead fish. “We haven’t decided when the ban will last, but it will be until the situation returns normal,” said Rika.
The phenomenon is caused by extreme weather. “We have coordinated with the ministry and it said that it was caused by a change in the temperature occurring at the bottom of the ocean,” she said.
Rika says she has removed those dead fishes stranded in the area. “It has been cleaned since yesterday,” said Rika.
