TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - New electricity tariffs for customers subscribing to 1,300 Volt Ampere (VA) and 2,200 VA electricity will be applied starting on December 1, 2015. The State Electricity Company (PLN) stated that December is considered to be the perfect moment to include both customer group into the new tariff adjustment.

"We apply the new tariffs in December instead of January next year because the inflation rate in November-December is at its lowest point," said Benny Marbun, Head of PLN’s Commercial Division during a press conference on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.

Benny stated that the 1,300VA and 2,200VA customer group was supposedly included in the new tariffs adjustment starting from January 2015, as previously agreed by the PLN and the House of Representatives. However, Board of Directors of PLN later decided to postpone the adjustment until May 1, 2015.

Benny added that currently there are a total of 12 customers category included in the tariff adjustment, while another 25 customers are still receiving subsidy from the government.

Benny explained that adjustment on electricity tariffs could include increasing, decreasing, or maintaining the tariffs, Adjustments, Benny added, will be made based on inflation rate, Rupiah exchange rate against the US Dollar, and the global oil price.

For the new tariffs, customers subscribing to 1,300VA and 2,200VA electricity services will have to pay Rp. 1,509 per kWh (Kilowatt Hour), slightly higher compared to the previous Rp. 1,352 per kWh tariff.
