TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The main trunk route between Pekalongan and Banjarnegara in Central Java has been cut off by a landslide occurred in the village of Linggosari in Kajen district, said Linggosari village chief Imam Nuryanto. The landslide is known to have occurred on Sunday evening, November 29.
"Authorities and local residents are working to remove the debris from the road, so traffic can once again traversing the route," said Imam on Monday, November 30.
According to Imam, in addition to connecting the cities of Pekalongan and Banjarsari, the route through Linggosari is an economic lifeline for local residents. "Vehicular access is completely cut off - so we'll have to wait until all debris is removed from the road," he said.
According to Nuryanto, the landslide did not claim any casualties - although it did cause a massive traffic jam around the area. Local authorities have advised local residents to exercise extra caution, especially in rainy season.
"Linggosari's immediate surrounds is known to be highly-prone to landslides during the rainy season," said Imam. "Although it has yet to cause any deaths or injuries, we would like ro remind locals that landslides are quite common in the area."
