TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Legislative Body (Baleg) of the House of Representative and the government represented by Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly have agreed to propose Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) law revision as a House’s initiative. Meanwhile, Baleg and Yasonna also agreed to propose Tax Amnesty draft bill as a government’s initiative.
House’s legislative body deputy chairman Firman Soebagyo promised that Baleg would involve the KPK to draft the bill.
“In the process of drafting the bill, we will invite KPK to consider which articles are to be revised, to avoid an asumption that the House is trying to weaken the KPK,” Firman said in a Baleg’s meeting at the Senayan Parliament Complex on Friday, November 27, 2015.
Earlier in October, the House of Representatives pitched a revision of Law Number 30/2002 on the KPK, which was considered by many as an effort to weaken the anti-graft commission.
However, in a meeting with Yasonna on Friday, the House of Representatives said that they would promote transparency in revising the KPK draft bill.
“We will invite the KPK to discuss the points [to be revised], so that the draft bill would be agreed by all and would not cause negative implications in the future,” Firman added.
