TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf “JK” Kalla said that he supported an open House’s Ethics Council’s (MKD) court trial on House of Representative’s Speaker Setya Novanto. JK said that transparency in the court trial was necessary so that public would be aware of what was alleged against Setya and how he defended himself.
“The court should be open, unless there was something important,” JK said on Saturday, November 28, 2015.
Kalla believes that the MKD can investigate ethics violation committed by Setya in relation to an alleged misuse of the names of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and JK and an attempt to trade government favors for shares in gold and copper mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia.
The MKD has ensured that it will hold a trial on the case on December 1, 2015. The MKD will also list names to be summoned to the court, including Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said and those who were mentioned in a transcript of a recorded conversation between Setya Novanto, Riza Chalid and Maroef Sjamsoeddin.
