TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A city’s dark history can be an attractive tourism object.  Ned Kelly, an Australian legendary fugitive who was hanged along with his gang members in 1880, became one of the 10 most favorite tourism sites in Melbourne, Australia.


Ned Kelly lived in the mid 19th century in Australia.  Throughout his life, Ned Kelly had became a police adversary for being involved in several thefts and police murders.


He was put behind bars several times, but it did not discouraged him.  Ned Kelly became a person despised by law enforcers, although he was considered as a hero by society, because during the colonial time Australian police were known to be vicious.


The story of his escape through various southern Australian landscape became an exciting adventure tourism package.  Even the Museum of Ned Kelly is opened in Benalla, Melbourne.  His relics are on display including the legendary steel mask used to fight police, weapons, horse saddle, journal, clippings of old newpapers, and relics of his family and gang members.


Each year, the museum is visited by thousands of people and the Ned Kelly adventure package is favored by many tourists.  It is also supported by various novel and book stories and movie of the fugitive.
