TEMPO.CO, Belitung - My journey to explore Belitung Island begun on Monday last week. It was early in the morning when me and the tour group members were asked to aboard a bus that took us to Tanjung Kelayang Beach.
“Don’t forget to bring extra clothes as we will play on the sand and water,” said one of our tour guides, Riyanto.
Riyanto was the one who suggested that we depart early morning to avoid high waves and for better chance to enjoy the scenery. We headed to Lengkuas Island, a popular spot in Belitung tourism.
From Tanjung Kelayang, we continued the journey on wooden boats. Each can accommodate maximum of 25 people. After about 20 minutes on the wooded boat, the giant granite stones started to be visible. The local people called the stones ‘Garuda stones’.
As we get closer to the island, the 50-meter lighthouse was seen. From atop this lighthouse, tourist would see the scenic view of Lengkuas Island including the white sand and giant stones surrounding the 1-hectare island.
Bang Valent, the other tour guide, said that this small island has often hosted company’s outbond event, video shooting and wedding shoots. Ther are a number of food stall in the island that sell instant noodles, coffee, snacks, and coconut ice.
