TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama announced on Friday, November 27, 2015 the removal of Lasro Marbun from his position as the Jakarta inspectorate head.
The reason behind Lasro’s removal was his knowledge about the procurement of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) worth Rp 1.2 trillion (US$92.3 million) in 2014.
“He [Lasro] knew about the project and include it in the budget,” Ahok told Tempo on Thursday, November 26, 2015.
Lasro was known as a clean official, who removed an extravagant budget plan worth Rp 3.4 trillion (US$246 million) when served as the city education agency head. Ahok was impressed with Lasro’s performance and granted Lasro’s request to be promoted as the Jakarta inspectorate head. Ahok claimed that the request was Lasro’s effort to cover his involvement in the UPS case.
Lasro explained the case to Tempo at the City Hall on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. However, Lasro refused to be quoted.
Ahok said that he considered East Jakarta Mayor Bambang Musyawardhana to succeed Lasro. Ahok would also remove several echelon II and echelon III officials who had not been committed to output-oriented programs.
