TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Syarifuddin Sudding, a member of the House of Representative’s Ethics Council (MKD), said that there could be a crime act involved in the alleged misuse of the names of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Jusuf “JK” Kalla committed by the House Speaker Setya Novanto.
“It’s possible if there is a report filed with the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim),” Syarifuddin said in the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 25.
According to Syarifuddin, there is a strong indication that the case could be categorized as a crime act, such as fraud or defamation.
Syarifuddin revealed that the MKD currently had gathered initial evidences for the case. He promised that the MKD would reveal them after questioning Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said and Freeport President Director Maroef Sjamsoeddin.
Earlier on Monday last week, Sudirman filed a report, along with a transcript of recorded conversation between Setya, Maroef, and businessman Muhammad Riza Chalid, to the MKD. In the transcript, they were discussing about the extension of Freeport Indonesia’s contract that would expire in 2021.
The transcript also revealed that Setya promised he could help Freeport with the contract extension provided that the company handed over 20 percent of shares for Jokowi and JK. In addition, Setya asked for 49 percent of shares in an electricity project in Urumuka, Papua.
