TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Ministry of Communications and Informatics expects internet users would access legal music sites and announced six of them on Monday, November 23.
“There are six legal music sites accessible for public,” Director General of Applications and Telematics Bambang Hery Tjahjono said.
The music sites that could be legally accessed are Langit Music, Arena Musik, Melodi Online (Melon), Gvera, Joox and Volup.
With the presence of these legal sites, the people is expected to not lose their rights to listen to their favorite music, as well as music industry companies.
Based on the data from ASIRI, the accessor of 22 websites reached 430,000 accessors per month. “If one accessor downloads one song with the assumption of Rp 7,000 per song, then the damage is predicted to reach Rp 6.6 billion per month causing a potential state loss tax to reach Rp 6.6 billion per month,” ASIRI administrator Totok Widjojo said Monday.
At the same time, 22 illegal websites have been blocked by the Communications and Informatics Ministry.
National music industry players including songwriters, artists, record companies and mucians also appreciates and welcomes the action taken by the ministry.
Totok thinks that the closing of those sites shows the government’s seriousness in dealing with online piracy issue.
“This is just the beginning, we still have a long battle ahead and as a musician, I fully support all actions conducted by the ministry and ASIRI in blocking the sites,” Nidji Band vocalist Giring Ganesha said Monday.
